Quote:
{8:41} And know that anything you obtain of war booty - then indeed, for God is one fifth of it and for the Messenger and for [his] near relatives and the orphans, the needy, and the [stranded] traveler, if you have believed in God and in that which We sent down to Our Servant on the day of criterion - the day when the two armies met. And God, over all things, is competent.
"Indeed" would be the right translation for
إن, not for
أن. Therefore, I suggest,
{8:41} And know that whatever you gain [of war booty] - that for God (charity) is one fifth of it and for the Messenger and for him of kin, the orphans, the poor, and the transient, if you have believed in God and in what We sent down upon Our worshiper on the day of discernment - the day when the two assemblies met. And God, over everything, is powerful.Quote:
{8:42} [Remember] when you were on the near side of the valley, and they were on the farther side, and the caravan was lower [in position] than you. If you had made an appointment [to meet], you would have missed the appointment. But [it was] so that God might accomplish a matter already destined - that those who perished [through disbelief] would perish upon evidence and those who lived [in faith] would live upon evidence; and indeed, God is Hearing and Knowing.
I suggest,
{8:42} [Remember] as you are by the nearest slope [of the valley], and they are by the farthest slope, and the cavalcade is below you. And had you [and your enemy] set an appointment [to meet], you would have differed on the appointment, but [it happened the way it did] so that God may execute a matter that was to be done - so that would perish who has perished upon a clear evidence and would live who has lived upon a clear evidence; and verily, God is surely All-Hearing, All-Knowing.
