Some important tips for posting in this forum.
1. How to suggest your own translation of a verse
We have created a special BBcode called MyTranslation for this purpose. When you press the MyTranslation button in the posting page, it loads the following into the text window
Code:
[MyTranslation=][/MyTranslation]
You should enter the chapter number and verse number separated by a comma (after the = sign) and the text of your translation (between the two bracketed BBcodes). For example,
Code:
[MyTranslation=1,4]Owner of the day of judgment[/MyTranslation]
which will be rendered by the system as:
{1:4} Owner of the day of judgmentWhen we update the site's translation of a verse, we will specifically look for entries that have MyTranslation BBcode. In order to draw the attention of the editors and others to your suggested translation, it is important that you use this BBcode. Please use it
only for a
complete, final translation of an entire, single verse. Any intermediate discussion or partial suggestions should be entered as normal text in your post.
2. How to quote a verse
We have created a special BBcode called Verse for this purpose. When you press the Verse button in the posting page, it loads the following into the text window
Code:
[Verse][/Verse]
You should enter the chapter and verse number separated by a comma (between the two bracketed BBcodes). For example,
Code:
[Verse]2,286[/Verse]
which will be rendered by the system as the Arabic text together with the translation:
3. Translation Research Tools
- Search function for the (Arabic) words in the Quran:
We have created this tool to enable you to find a verse by keyword, and to go directly to its discussion topic. The Arabic search entry form is located next to the Quran index, near the top of every page in this board. Enter the exact Arabic word without "tashkeel" then click on the green arrow and you will see the list of verse numbers that include that word. Move the cursor to a verse number to see a preview of that verse, and click on the verse number to load the topic that discusses the translation in the main browser window. The same function can be achieved through the Quran index near the top of the page. Click on an Arabic letter in the index to see the keywords that start with that letter in alphabetic order. Click on the word you have in mind and you will go to the list of verse numbers that include that word.
- Search function for the (English) words in the translations:
We have created this tool to enable you to find a verse by an English keyword in its translation, and to go directly to its discussion topic. The English search entry form is located next to the translation index, near the top of every page in this board. Enter the exact English word (first letter is case sensitive) then click on the green arrow and you will see the list of verse numbers that include that word in the MRB translation as well as in other translations. Move the cursor to a verse number to see a preview of the MRB translation of the verse, and click on the verse number to load the topic that discusses the translation in the main browser window. The same function can be achieved through the Translation index near the top of the page. Click on an English letter in the index to see the keywords that start with that letter in alphabetic order. Click on the word you have in mind and you will go to the list of verse numbers that include that word in their translations.
- Other Translations:
We have created this tool to enable you to look at 4 other translations (adapted versions of Yusuf Ali, Pickthall, Sarwar, and Asad) of each verse by clicking on the verse number in the original post of each translation topic, e.g., the topic Verses 1:1-4
- Thesaurus:
If you chose an English word in your translation, and you want to improve upon it by exploring other English words that are close in meaning, we suggest that you visit Thesaurus Reference where you can enter your candidate word and see other suggestions with similar meaning. This is an external link so we don't have control over the contents, but we included it as it is a useful tool for translation in general.
Thank you.
